Veteran Post Update – 10/22

I helped 9 Veterans and one widow fill out the Stevens County Voucher Relief Application. Contacted local and outside Vendors that Veterans can go to, to get what they need; i.e. firewood, pellets, presto logs and tires. Followed up with Stevens County and Vendors on the checks that were approved. I also called and checked in on Veterans to check their well being and follow up with them on their claims.
I got help and direction on who to contact about getting the memorial going, Changes are being made to the inside and needed updated prints. I’m hoping to get The Battlefield Cross instead of the water fountain.
The VFW program helped with gas money ($20 for each appointment, total of $100.00 for October) for Veterans to get to their doctor appointments, transported Veterans to the appointments and helped them buy parts for their plumbing. Created community service reports, audit reports and online reports.
Pat attended the Veterans Honoring Ceremony on 10/8/22 that the AIVAC group hosts yearly.
Finance Update – 10/22

The tribe will issue a $500 Per Capita payment on November 18, 2022 to all eligible Tribal members. 100% of the Minor Tribal member per capita will be deposited in the minor’s trust account.
Elder General Welfare Assistance
The tribe will issue enrolled tribal members 65 years and older $300 quarterly in the months of December 2022, March, June and September 2023. The tribe must receive the quarterly application from the elder. The funds are to assist with the unmet basic needs of the elders which my include but not be limited to services related to Housing, Medical, Educational, Cultural, Religious, Transportation and Utilities.

Spokane Tribal Police Update – 10/22

October Report 2022Racom Communications came out on Sept 30th and met with Broadband technicians to look at the tower sites for moving forward with equipment purchase and installation for repeaters for law enforcement. The FCC approved licensing for four new repeater sites to enhance emergency communications.
The Chief met on the 30th with BIA Communications Chief from Denver Colorado. In the meeting he was with the BIA Drug investigator, Chief of the Kalispel Police, and Chief of Airway Heights Police, talking about interoperability for our agencies in 800 MHZ communications. The BIA is willing to assist us in building on the infrastructure for this project with no cost to the tribe.
Our new server has been ordered for the Spillman computer which is the last obstacle for our deployment of laptops to the vehicles.
On Monday, Oct 10th, our department participated in the Head Start walk for Cancer to the Pow Wow Grounds. The littles ones did an excellent job in getting to the Pow Wow grounds in under a half hour.
On Oct 11th, The Chief met online with Julian Day, who is our Lexipol consultant and she is working on our policy and procedure manual for the department.
Oct 18th, The Chief sat on the Oral Boards for Airway Heights Police to assist in the selection of a new Lieutenant. This was an all-day event and was in four phases. Application, Written, Presentation, and oral board. There were three candidates interviewed.
Oct 20th was my Chiefs and Sheriffs luncheon at Northern Quest. It is a networking for the area Chiefs and sheriffs for trends or issues.
At 1900 hours the same day, Deputy Chief Allen called the Chief to advise of an Active Shooter event on the Colville Indian Reservation that was in progress. Deputy Chief Allen, Det Shockley and the Chief responded to the Colville Tribal Police Department to assist the other 100 officers from a multitude of agencies in the area. This is a no questions asked action when an officer is shot. FBI SA Hoff was in charge of the investigation and the Chief was assigned the task of evidence processing, while Deputy Chief Allen processed a crime scene with Det Shockley.

RE: Salmon Events – Salmon are returning to our waters!
Your Department of Natural Resources is pleased to provide an opportunity to harvest Chinook salmon from Tshimikain Creek. About 60 Chinook salmon have been released to a fenced section of the creek just downstream of Tshimikain Falls. There will not be an organized event but the fish will be available from August 10th through Wednesday, August 17th so you may come and go as you please. Since there are not many fish please limit your harvest to one per household. When the fence is pulled any salmon remaining in the river will be free to move about Tshimikain to spawn as they have for the past several years.
The harvest opportunity is not the only salmon event of the season. On August 24th the Spokane Tribe will be leading a multi-tribal release of Chinook to the Spokane River. This will be a large event that is open to the public and coordinated as part of the American Fisheries Society national meeting. Citizens of the Tribe are encouraged to attend and participate in returning adult salmon to the Spokane River for the first time in over 100 years.
